About the Society

1) Who is in the Society? 

We are a small group of wine enthusiasts (a couple dozen of us and growing) that live in the Los Angeles area. Most of us are working professionals in our 30s and 40s, though we welcome all ages (21+ of course). For many of us, wine is a hobby rather than a profession, though we of course welcome industry folks to join too! What we all have in common is a true passion and interest in wine — we love getting together to discuss & learn more about wines we love and are always searching for new wines and regions to taste & explore.

2) Tell me more about Society events!

We usually get together once or twice a month, gathering at wine bars around the city or at a member's home. Most of our events have a theme, focusing on a wine region or style. Past events include 'Rioja Night', 'Natural Wine Night' and 'Napa Cab Night' just to give you a flavor of what to expect. 

 

For events hosted at a member's home: Typically, each member brings a bottle or two following the night's theme — it could be your all-time favorite or something you've been interested to try. Each member gets to taste a bit of all bottles brought, whether in a casual sipping format or in more of a formal tasting format. That way everyone gets to taste many examples of a region/style to discover what they love (plus taste hundreds or thousands of dollars of wine while only having to buy a bottle or two each!). These events are NOT stuffy or intimidating. They are NOT about competing or showing off who has the most wine knowledge. They are fun, casual and all about learning & exploration.

For events hosted at a wine bar: Similar to our private home events, wine bar events follow a theme, profiling a region or style. We meet up at different wine bars in LA and either order off the wine list or enjoy tasting flights specially curated for us by the wine bar.

3) Are there fees associated with Society membership? 

There is no membership fee to be a part of the Society. However, note that to participate in events you will either need to bring 1-2 bottles of wine with you (for private home events) or pay for your own tastings at wine bar events. Note: When bringing wine bottles with you, there isn't a minimum retail price requirement for the bottles you bring. However, our focus is on high quality wines that represent a true expression of the region or style we are celebrating at the event.
